other than gwynneth paltrow's lovely severed head what exactly do the velvet pilgrims get for their membership here you ask...
-daily posts that appear only here touching on stuff specific to the 401 family and the 9 story hotel project and or stuff too sensitive too personal too weird or potentially controversial to post on instagram.
-anyone who posts something here will have an ongoing conversation with me and the family at large.
-exclusive content. raw and unfinished unpublished director's cut material from the phineas books, including the 4th as yet untitled, the Rachel stories, jack fell and godspeed.
-video lectures reconstructed from the teaching days
-open invitation to join and write for the 9 story hotel project. all contributors will be co-owners of the intellectual property. maybe we sell it to netflix or do a kickstarter campaign to fund a graphic novel adaptation. endless possibles there.
-eligible to sign up for the 401 workshop.
-earlier was asked how and where will the 401 shop operate. well here in the yellow cloud pilgrim. at the 401 treehouse.
-thinking either four or six week shop capped at 15 students
-run three of them back to back this semester then take a break.
-every student or pilgrim gets minimum of two stories workshopped by the group with in depth critique and guidance from me.
-one group zoom session per week
-each pilgrim gets one individual zoom session with me to discuss their work and or whatever else they want to talk about.
-workshop folk will all have option to contribute to the anthology.
-I'll probably recruit a team of three editors from the former velvet crew to help sort and choose which submissions make the final cut. blind submissions maybe to keep things as egalitarian as possible.
-off the top of my head I'm thinking the average six week summer class at the community college here is at least a grand. with that in mind I would propose charging 400 american dollars for the 4 week shop,
or six for the six.
-if anyone thinks those numbers are too high or too low please speak up. -nothing stupid or crazy in the yellow.
-also willing to do some sort of sliding scale depending on individual circumstances and based on work submitted
for consideration.
-note. you don't have to be in the workshops to contribute to the anthology. some of you guys already know what you're doing and probably don't need the workshop experience anymore.
-just join the 401 family and get involved with the 9 story hotel world building from the jump.
-I'll keep dropping new cheat codes here and on instagram for a month free access to anyone who wants to visit to kick some tires and smell what's cooking before committing to premium membership.
-the current codes are jackfell401 for one month free. yellowseven for the 2 dollar better off dead plan good for six months. dizzybloom for thirty days free renewable three times.
-what else. free swag and march. stickers and t-shirts. high time for a religiously cold t-shirt.
ps. totally open to suggestions I'm making this up as I go along.
fade.
For anyone currently involved with, working on, or having to do with the 9 story Hotel project. We are in the process of migrating the bulk of the work and community surrounding the Hotel to Discord from The Locals, since the Locals is harder to navigate even than Discord, I would suggest you join up. The server is fully populated and set-up for work, talk, and collaboration.
This is the discord invite, it is good for the next seven days, after which I will probably post another one:
Let's see if I'm not as dumb as I think I am. This is the Google doc link for FRACTALS, the Delphine and Balthazar story.
Little iffy on the first section. I think it's good for characterization and to set up some of the relationships, but maybe it could be streamlined or brought into the main narrative. Feels slightly more like the opening of a novel than a story but I'll let others weigh in.
Hope y'all dig it!
EDIT: I was talking with another writer and wanted to clarify something I should've mentioned above. (Trying to avoid spoilers.) The ending of this is purposely ambiguous, in that another writer could pick up with the next story from another character's point of view, Delphine could achieve either of the possible goals (or none of them), or anything in between. And it's kind of subject to change based on what the next story is or what the overall project needs from these characters. TL;DR: If the ending doesn't quite land with the project from a 30k-foot view, no worries, we ...
